Joe Biden’s son Hunter is trying to lower his child support payments for his love child, saying in a court filing he can’t afford it anymore.
Hunter Biden, 52 – who has been hit by scandal after content on his personal laptop was leaked – filed a petition to adjust child support this week, citing “a significant change” in his “financial situation, including, but not limited to, its income”.
He has asked an Arkansas judge to recalculate the child support payments he pays to Lunden Roberts, 31, the mother of the girl he has never met.
He fathered Navy Joan – the fourth of his five children – around December 2017 while she was working at a strip club in DC and he was still in a relationship with his brother Beau’s widow, Hallie Biden.
“No memory” of a meeting with the mother of the child
In his 2021 memoir Beautiful Things, Hunter Biden said he “had no memory of us meeting”, suggesting that his heavy substance use interfered with his memory.
He did not acknowledge the child as part of his family, nor did his father provide him with the same round-the-clock Secret Service protection offered to various other Biden grandchildren.
Hunter Biden has previously claimed a lack of finances in his child support battle with Ms Roberts. It is not stated in the documents how much he currently pays.
After filing a paternity suit in 2019, he argued in an affidavit that he couldn’t pay child support because he was broke, insisting he had a ‘significant debt’ of his divorce from his ex-wife Kathleen, with whom he shares three children.
“I certify that I am unemployed and have had no monthly income since May 2019,” he wrote.
A New York Times article at the time claimed he was living in a $12,000-a-month rental in Los Angeles with a swimming pool and a Porsche Panamera in the driveway.
An analysis by NBC News found that he and his company earned around $11 million between 2013 and 2018, much of it from foreign sources while his father was vice president of the United States.
Hunter Biden admitted in his book to spending money on drugs and partying with strangers who regularly robbed him.
The child support battle comes as federal investigators continue to investigate her financial and business activities when her father was in office under Barack Obama’s administration.
