A girl and her mother donated the $ 800 in pennies her ex-father threw in their Virginia backyard for his last child support payment.

Home security footage shows the unidentified man pulling an SUV with a trailer attached and emptying the contents onto the lawn by May 21. The interaction between Sanford’s mother and her estranged father can also be heard.
After the incident, family and friends collected the 80,000 cents and donated it to a local charity.
Safe Harbor Shelter, a support center for survivors of sexual and domestic violence and human trafficking, confirmed Sanford’s donation.
“They were able to turn such a negative experience, and what her daughter witnessed, into a positive one,” said Cathy Easter, Executive Director. told the Washington Post. “They found a way to turn the tide and not feel devastated about it.”

Sanford told WVTR that her ex-father’s actions were “really hurtful and damaging”, but that she was happy they were able to do some good.
âBy turning over and giving this money to moms and kids in need, I feel like it really turns this situation into a positive,â she said.
The Sanford story has also reportedly inspired others to help, with the shelter claiming to have received more than $ 5,000 in donations this week.
