Britney Spears’ request for a court to prevent her father from returning because her conservative will not be decided until February, a California judge ruled.

James P Spears (aka Jamie Spears) oversaw his daughter’s personal and financial decision-making as well as her health care for over a decade until last year, when he resigned citing issues of health.

Spears’ attorney Samuel D Ingham III said his client was “strongly opposed” to his father’s return to his post, preferring to retain his temporary curator, Jodi Montgomery, and that “a corporate trustee qualified “as a bank be put in charge of its estate. Ingham said Spears was unwilling to play for the foreseeable future and raised the possibility that she could “seek termination of this guardianship in the future.”

Through his lawyers, Jamie Spears tried to bring back his co-curator, Andrew M Wallet, who voluntarily resigned in March 2019.

Judge Brenda Penny extended the guardianship in its current form until February 1, 2021. She asked Ingham to file Spears’ motion by September 18 and file any objections by October 2. The next hearing in the case is on October 14.

The closed hearing took place on August 19 in Los Angeles. Supporters of the #FreeBritney movement – who believe the star is being held against her will and stolen – gathered outside the courtroom.

Jamie dismissed the charges in an interview earlier this month. “All these conspiracy theorists don’t know anything,” he said. “I have to report every penny and penny I spend in court every year. How the hell could I steal something? … I love my daughter.”

Spears’ cause has also drawn support from the American Civil Liberties Union. “People with disabilities have the right to lead an independent life and to retain their civil rights” the organization tweeted last week. “If Britney Spears wants to regain her civil liberties and get out of her tutelage, we are here to help her.”
