Britney Spears has asked a judge to end her father’s guardianship at a hearing next week so that she can marry with a prenuptial agreement, a petition filed by her lawyer said on Wednesday.

The American pop singer, who has called the controversial 13-year-old arrangement that puts Jamie Spears in control of her affairs “abuse”, recently announced her engagement to boyfriend Sam Asghari.

Jamie Spears filed a petition last month to end Britney’s guardianship, saying he acknowledges the singer “now believes she can manage her own life.”

According to Wednesday’s filing, Britney is “in the process of hiring a family law attorney to draft a prenuptial agreement,” which would require the approval of any conservatives still in place.

“As Ms. Spears ‘relationship with this Conservative (her father) is severed, Mr. Spears’ continued involvement would hamper the ability to negotiate and enter into a contract that all can agree is in the best interests of Mrs. Spears, “he says.

The petition asks the Los Angeles court judge to “suspend Mr. Spears” at the next hearing, set for September 29.

He offers a short-term temporary guardian who can succeed his father and possibly approve a prenuptial agreement before the whole guardianship structure can be completed later this year.

Spears and Asghari met in 2016 when they starred in a music video for their single “Slumber Party”.

Spears, 39, has two children with her former husband, rapper Kevin Federline, and had a brief Las Vegas marriage to childhood friend Jason Alexander which was called off after just 55 hours.

The star rose to prominence as a teenager with hits like “… Baby One More Time” but suffered a very public breakdown in 2007, attacking a paparazzi’s car at a gas station.

This led to her being placed under court-ordered guardianship largely governed by her father.

In addition to paving the way for his next marriage, Wednesday’s petition said Jamie Spears’ dismissal was urgent because “every day that Mr. Spears clings to his post is another day of anguish and hurt. for his daughter “.

She previously alleged in court that she was prevented from having a contraceptive IUD removed, even though she wanted to have more children.
